The Global Data Synchronization Network® (GDSN®) Package Measurement Rules establish global standards that facilitate the measurement of linear dimensions and weights for retail and non-retail products from the consumer unit to the non-consumer level and all intermediate packaging levels in between.
Changes to the Package Measurement Standards
The rules have been updated to a new issue (1.10) to add measurement tolerances for small rigid packages to tables in section 6-3. By definition, small rigid trade items have all dimensions less than or equal to 2.5 inches / 64 mm and weigh up to 2 pounds / .9 KG each. These new tolerances exclude flexible packaging, and do not impact actual product measurement.
This issue also included textual and graphics changes intended to ensure improved understanding and implementation of existing rules.

GDSN Data Quality Framework
The GDSN Data Quality Framework incorporates:
GS1, along with AIM, CIES, ECR Europe, FMI, GCI and GMA have developed a best practice framework for global data quality and a recommendation for the GDSN.
- A data quality management system to help improve the quality of data as published in the network.
- An assessment procedure to validate the existence and effectiveness of key data management business processes. This assessment may lead to a compliance statement.
- An inspection procedure to physically validate product attributes.
